VCU Researcher Awarded DOD Grant to Identify Genetic Risk Factors for Persistent Concussion Symptoms and PTSD
In collaboration with LIMBIC-CENC researchers, Christina Sheerin, PhD, has been awarded a DOD grant, Characterizing the Genetic Architecture and Risk for Persistent Post-Concussion Symptoms, PTSD, and Alcohol Use Disorder in a Longitudinal Military Cohort. This study focuses on service members and veterans with a history of exposure to traumatic stressors and mild TBI. These individuals are at greater risk for developing health conditions such as persistent concussion symptoms, PTSD and/or alcohol use. Identifying genetic risk factors can help better identify those service members and veterans who are more likely to develop these health conditions. We can then develop better personalized prevention and interventions for these health conditions.
